Poynton occurs as little village half way between Macclesfield and Stockport in Cheshire, home to or so 15,000 humans. There exists little of smashing architectural note, however the centre of the village boasts a ticket Gothic-style church (St. Georges) opposite the Victorian fountain.

A village was founded in the late 19th century around a little coalpit known as Anson Pit, placed a mile from either the todays village centre.

Famous Poyntonians include Yvette Fielding (previously of Blue Peter and currently of Most Haunted on LivingTV) and Nick Simpkin, property show presenter.

Poynton is administered by the Parish Council, Macclesfield Borough Council and Cheshire County Council. There was argument in the late 1980s when Poynton was forced to accept existence a portion of the postal district of Stockport, which local people despised (groundlessly, it turned out) would affect property numbers.
